Auto insurance oversights could be costly
Auto insurance costs money. There’s no getting around that. Drivers are required to carry car insurance in nearly every state, and the increasing complexity of modern automobiles and increased costs of medical care have made car insurance quite expensive. Most people try to find the best possible price on their car insurance, and that’s fine. But some people try to spend as little as possible when it would be in their best interests to spend a bit more. In fact, in some situations, it can actually be cheaper in the long run to pay a bit more now. How can that be?
There are situations where trying to save as much money as possible actually leaves you with less protection than you need. That is just one of several situations where consumers often fail to think things through before they act.
Here are a few situations where some oversights could end up costing you money:
Spending as little as possible without thinking it through. Sure, you may save a few bucks by buying a policy from Bob’s Auto Insurance, but it’s not about saving money, it’s about having adequate coverage. You want to make sure that you have at least as much coverage as you need and you want to make sure that you have coverage from a company that will actually be there for you if you need to file a claim. If Bob is on vacation, or filing for bankruptcy, having a policy with him isn’t very useful. It is an equally bad idea to have the minimum amount of coverage if you actually need more. In a severe accident, whatever isn’t covered by your policy will come from you. It’s not enough to have coverage; you have to have enough of it.
